Spring Fling

LAPA-NCR's 2016 "Spring Fling" was held at the Liberty Mountain Resort in Carroll Valley, Pennsylvania the weekend of March 18-20. Approximately 20 families from the greater DC area (plus a few from Pennsylvania and New Jersey) attended. The resort, located approximately 20 miles from Gettysburg, PA, was a convenient location for everyone and provided a terrific backdrop for an awesome weekend of fun and friendship!

A number of families arrived on Friday night and headed straight for the beautiful saltwater pool, where they played water-basketball, sat under the fountains and hit the hot tub. Parents chatted and got to know one another while LAPA-NCR's Board of Directors conducted a board meeting poolside. The board considered topics such as Mis Amigos Culture Camp and future events.

After a delicious buffet breakfast on Saturday morning, the remaining families arrived and we went roller-skating at a local rink. Fortunately, we managed to avoid any trips to the ER and everyone had a blast, skating, playing video games, skee-ball and air hockey. Saturday afternoon brought free-time, where most families hit the pool again while parents relaxed and visited. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate for the rock wall and zip-lining event that was planned for the teens. A delicious Latin-American dinner was served later in the day and LAPA-NCR's co-presidents Carolyn Parker and Donna Hawley addressed the group, thanking everyone for coming and reminding us about LAPA's upcoming events, such as the summer picnic in June and Mis Amigos culture camp in July. After dinner, our group enjoyed a yummy ice-cream Sunday bar and the unexpected entertainment of a talented balloon artist, who coincidentally happened to be in the resort lobby as dinner was ending. He made amazing balloon creations, such as light sabers, jet packs, bows and arrows (that actually worked) and animals. The kids (and many of the parents) were totally mesmerized. Many of the kids went back to the pool to hang out after dinner as well. On Sunday morning after a leisurely breakfast, we said our goodbyes with promises to see each other again soon!

A very special thank you to our "Spring-Fling" organizers, Dawn Popp and Robin Becker-Corblatt. It was a great weekend and we are already looking forward to next year's event!
