ADDITIONAL EVENT INFORMATION
In 2019, we are embarking on a new chapter of LAPA. On July 12-14 we will have our first Mis Amigos Retreat Weekend. After looking into sites from the Eastern Shore to Deep Creek Lake, we have chosen Pearlstone Retreat Center as the site of our summer weekend. Pearlstone is in rural Baltimore County north of Reisterstown. Their 180-acre campus is a beautiful mix of fields and forests, including a working farm with sheep and chickens right next to the lodging. There is a pool complex and the grounds are set up for soccer and volleyball and evening campfires. Indoors there are great facilities for some art workshops and discussions about parenting, adoption and Latin America. We can pay extra for things like ropes courses and ziplines.
Alumni are encouraged to join for the weekend – get a bunch of your friends to come to you and we can set you up in one or more cabins.
Families who want to attend but who cannot afford the whole deposit or the whole weekend cost, please contact either of the Co-Presidents (or others in LAPA leadership) about financial assistance.
(Note: 50% payment will be due January 15, and 100% payment due March 15 so that we can meet Pearlstone’s payment deadlines for LAPA.)
We will also ask you to indicate a likely preference for housing; costs would include two nights lodging and five meals (Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast). Depending upon final programming (see below) costs for families to stay in nice hotel rooms would be roughly $230-per person plus tax for the three-day weekend, and costs for cabin or dorm housing would be roughly $210 per person plus tax. (Children <13 will cost about $50 for the weekend regardless of housing.)
Please also indicate 2-4 program extras that your family would most be interested in being part of the weekend. Each activity would likely add something like $5-10 to the cost of the weekend per person so choose only those your family thinks we should pay extra for.
1) art – we are discussing a possible return of Mas Paz – Federico the artist who worked with the camp in 2018
2) field day and athletics – we plan to reach out to Edie the PE teacher who helped with camp in 2017.
3) zip line – we could rent the zip line for an afternoon
4) parenting and adoption (e.g., the tween and teen years; possible visit by CASE for adults and/or children)
5) other – please list suggestions that you and other families might be interested in.
